Many of us like to make trips offroad that involve a point-to-point plan, not a roundtrip. The Rubicon is a great example. You can come in on the Loon Lake side and exit at Lake Tahoe. But if you towed your rig there, you're a good 90 miles from your tow rig and your spare tire. Running with a spare tire on the back of your Jeep is usually a good idea.
